VoteThem.in is a way for individuals to fund projects that benefit their local community. The idea starts with a couple premises:
VoteThem.in asks members of a city to join a philanthropy group. Entry to this group is $1 a month. Together, these $1 dues form the community's philanthropy fund. Every month, organizations from the city compete for this fund. They submit videos and the group votes on which organization they would like to give their money to.
The community puts money into a pool and then gives it away to projects that benefit their city. That's all.
Imagine being a member of a large group of people that can shape the direction of projects within your city.
VoteThem.in will start in Boston in early Fall of 2009. It will start small, like most good things do. But anyone can join this initial philanthropy group and anyone can vote.
If we can all pitch in to make Boston a success, then it will be that much easier to start VoteThem.in in other cities. We are all one big community; and if we can believe in that, then we can do this everywhere.
